Members of the project team at an international conference in Paris

On November 13-14, 2025, Professor Helena Ostrowicka and PhD Celina Czech-Włodarczyk participated in the international conference on management and leadership ECMLG 2025 in Paris-Nanterre. The researchers presented a paper entitled “Leadership Theories and the Activities of Youth Organizations – Interpretive Perspectives,” in the section chaired by Dr. Celina Czech-Włodarczyk. In their paper, the researchers presented the results of research on the activities of youth organizations in relation to selected leadership theories (traditional, situational, contingency, transformational, and transactional theories). They devoted particular attention to analyzing the organizations’ activities in the context of a modern approach to leadership based on leadership: servant, authentic, network, and distributed. The researchers emphasized that youth organizations are a space for implementing and learning team leadership. In their paper, the scientists analyzed the role and functions of youth organizations in Polish society, the goals and values promoted by youth structures, as well as the organizational structures – both hierarchical and networked – and the challenges and specifics of youth work, including motivation, engagement, and the development of social competencies. Implementing the theory of leadership traits and styles into the research findings enabled the identification of examples of autocratic versus democratic leadership in youth organizations. Interpreting the research findings in relation to transformational leadership in the context of youth organizations revealed how youth are inspired to act, develop autonomy and creativity, and how community and a sense of meaning are built. Interpreting the results in relation to the network and distributed perspectives, the researchers demonstrated the role of distributed leadership in modern youth organizations and the collaboration and participation of young leaders, local/regional organizations, and their branches. The presentation generated interest among the audience. The researchers provided explanations and answered questions. The discussions continued during breaks and dinner.
