Project research results presented at the ECER 2025 conference in Belgrade

On September 9-13, 2025, project manager Prof. dr hab. Helena Ostrowicka, along with project equipment partners Prof. dr hab. Violetta Kopińska and dr Celina Czech-Włodarczyk, participated in the 35th annual international conference of the EERA scientific society, entitled “Charting the Way Forward: Education, Research, Potentials and Perspectives,” held in Belgrade, Serbia, in cooperation with Belgrade University. The researchers presented two papers: “Heterotopias of Citizenship in the Spaces of Selected Youth Organizations Operating in Poland and Ukraine” (Ostrowicka, Czech-Włodarczyk) and “Civic Education in the Online Discourses of Selected Youth Organizations Operating in Poland” (Kopińska), which received considerable attention from conference participants. In both cases, the results of the research conducted within the project were generated. The first was the disclosure of aggregate results for all organizations, both Polish and Ukrainian. The second presented results only for two organizations: ATD Czwarty Świat and AIESEC Polska. The results directly address three categories: origins, values, and participation, which are based on the concept of heterotopia of citizenship derived from Foucault. The researchers’ findings revealed the multi-layered nature of collective participation, values (goals, norms, problematization), and methods and forms of participation in historical and pragmatic contexts. The research findings reveal the identity space, complementarity, and differences within heterotopia of citizenship arising from youth organizations in both Poland and Ukraine.
